For some of them, it's a change in hormonal composition to properly activate the appropriate functions. That sort of thing is something my ability mostly handles, since knowing how my own body works lets me have an exceptional amount of control over it. For some powers, I do have to alter my own brain slightly. That's a lot easier with the telekinesis.
Every ability is unique, so it's always hard to tell what I'm going to get until I take a look at it.

Back home, the only place that might've had the tools to do that kidnapped and tortured me, and they were clearly trying to 'test' me to death. So that didn't work out.
